1930s British Dinner Suit SL-BF38

Here’s an opportunity to buy a rare British 1930s dinner suit made by the legendary British men’s outfitters, Burtons. This suit is a rare example of an early shawl collar dinner suit, which – as can be seen in the photographs – has a high button-stance. The jacket has a label using the name ‘Montague Burton – The Tailor of Taste Ltd’ which was replaced in 1936, dating it to before that date. Please note: the trousers are not the originals. We have paired the jacket with dinner suit trousers from the same period in a very similar cloth. Due to the large amounts of dinner suit trousers manufactured during this period – often using almost identical cloth – finding a suitable pair of replacement trousers should be relatively easy. The suit has been priced to reflect the fact that it has replacement trousers.

Jacket – Chest (measured pit to pit) = 22 inches/Shoulders = 18.5 inches/Sleeve = 23.5 inches/Length = 30.5 inches.

Trousers – Waist = 32 inches (waist can be let out by 2 to 3 inches/Inside leg = 29 inches (+1 inch to let down)/Front Rise = 15 inches/Rear Rise = 20 inches.

Condition: Jacket – Good. Trousers - Moderate (they have a repair on the outer leg).
